Borussia Dortmund vs RB Leipzig Betting Preview: Odds & Predictions

A difficult couple of weeks for Borussia Dortmund doesn’t look, on paper, like it could get much better this weekend, as they host RB Leipzig at Signal Iduna Park. With three defeats in eight days – all away from home – the Scwarzgelben will be looking to get back on track in front of their own supporters against a Leipzig side enjoying life in the early stages of this Bundesliga campaign, sitting joint top with Bayern München.

Kick-off for this game is on the 2nd of November at 18:30 CET.

Borussia Dortmund vs RB Leipzig Insights

It’s been a difficult ten days for Borussia Dortmund, having twice been beaten after leading in the game.

Against Real Madrid, Dortmund found themselves with a 2-0 lead to stun the Santiago Bernabéu into silence, thanks to two goals in five minutes from Donyell Malen and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. As is often the way with Real Madrid – especially in the Champions League – they didn’t know when they were beaten. Inspired by a Vinicius Jr hat-trick and goals from Antonio Rudiger and Lucas Vasquez, Los Blancos surged to a 5-2 win to complete a second-half comeback.

History repeated itself last weekend for Die Schwarzgelben, albeit on a smaller, domestic scale. Donyell Malen once again gave Dortmund the lead, this time after just four minutes, before Alexis Claude Maurice inspired Augsburg’s turnaround with goals either side of half-time, before Dortmund’s misery was compounded by Almugera Kabar’s red card, in the ninth minute of second half injury time.

And their awful away form continued on Tuesday night, when VfL Wolfsburg knocked them out of the DFB-Pokal, with an extra-time winner from Jonas Wind handing Dortmund their third defeat in just eight days. When questioned on what the defeat meant for head coach Nuri Sahin, the club’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl said: “Nothing. We will stand together. We will go through it together.”

Away from cup competitions and back to the Bundesliga, inconsistency in results has plagued Dortmund in recent weeks, though the reason why is clear to see – they can’t win away, but never fail to win at home in front of the famous Yellow Wall. Of their five home games so far – four in the league – they have won all five. Of their eight games away from home – again four in the league – they’ve lost six, with a DFB-Pokal first-round win against 1. FC Phönix Lübeck of the fourth tier, and a 0-0 draw at Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga accounted for the the other two matches.

RB Leipzig are enjoying life in a battle with Bayern München at the top of the Bundesliga, sitting second on twenty points and only behind the Bavarian giants on goal difference.

So far, Leipzig are unbeaten in each of their eight Bundesliga matches, winning six and drawing two, and have by far the meanest defense in the division, conceding only three league goals – two of which came against the defending champions Bayer Leverkusen in the second game of the season.

It’s in the Champions League that Leipzig have struggled so far this season, which makes one wonder where their place may truly sit among Europe’s elite, should they go on to win the title this season. So far, they’ve lost all three games against Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Liverpool – admittedly, it’s been a tough run. Dortmund, despite their recent falters, have plenty of big game experience, and could well use this to their advantage on Saturday.

On the road, their league form couldn’t be any different from their hosts – winning three of their four matches and drawing the other. They’ll come into the game in a buoyant mood, too, having overcome St Pauli 4-2 midweek in the DFB-Pokal, despite several injuries.

Borussia Dortmund vs RB Leipzig Team News

Borussia Dortmund will definitely be without Almugera Kabar, after he picked up that late red card at Augsburg last weekend.

Their injury record doesn’t make for good reading either, if you’re Nuri Sahin. Giovanni Reyna continues to be absent with a groin strain that’s kept him out since early September. Karim Adeyemi also remains on the sidelines for a couple more weeks with a muscle injury sustained at the start of October.

Winger Jurian Duranville also faces a wait to return to action from a hamstring injury, Niklas Süle continues to struggle with an ankle problem, Waldemar Anton is sidelined with a thigh injury and Julian Ryerson misses out with adductor pain.

There could be a return, however, for Yan Couto, who has missed out in recent weeks with a muscle injury.

When it comes to absentees, high-flying Leipzig aren’t faring much better, particularly in the middle of the park. Xaver Schlager, Assan Ouédraogo, and Nicolas Seiwald will all sit the trip to Dortmund out.

Left-back David Raum, attacking midfielder Xavi Simons, and forward Loïs Openda are all also due to miss the trip, with varying injuries between them all.

There could be a return for goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi after he left the field with an injury in the 3-1 win over Freiburg last weekend. Maarten Vandevoordt deputized for the second half of that game, as well as in the cup win midweek, but may make way again for Gulacsi’s return.

Prediction: Draw, under 4.5 goals @ 3.651

Other Bundesliga football betting tips:

Bayern München will be looking to open a three-point gap ahead of RB Leipzig kicking off when they face Union Berlin on Saturday (15:30 CET). Union Berlin are enjoying a good start to the season, sitting fourth after eight games and only losing once. Regarding scoring goals, Union and Bayern couldn’t be more different. Bayern have netted on 29 occasions, while Union have only put the ball in the net on nine occasions. At the back, however, both sides have been frugal, with Union conceding just five to Bayern’s seven. Bayern are likely to run out winners in this one but will be made to work for their win. Back Bayern München to win 2-0 at 7.874.

Borrusia Mönchengladbach host Werder Bremen on Sunday (17:30 CET), with Bremen having one eye on moving into a European spot. Currently, only Bayern München have a better record on the road in the Bundesliga, sitting top of the away form table with 13 points, though they have played a game more. Bremen have played four away from home so far, picking up ten points. They’ve also found the net ten times in their last three league matches, showing their potency in attacking areas. Mönchengladbach have been hit and miss, sitting 11th in the Bundesliga currently with ten points. They know where the net is, however, having scored in every game since September 21st. Back a Werder Bremen win, with both teams to score at 5.060.
